Cannot Disconnect in SqlDeveloper 1.5

If you can't connect or disconnect from the connections tree in SqlDeveloper 1.5, you probably have a report tab active.

To test this, do the following:

If the reports tab is not already visible, click on View > Reports and pick any report... Doesn't really matter. Any report will do... for example... All Reports > Data Dictionary Reports > Database Administration > Session > Active Sessions.

Switch over to the connections tab. If it's not visible, click on View > Connections.

On the connections tree, pick a connection and attempt to connect or disconnect. Nothing happens.

To get it working, close the Reports Tab. Or, if you already have a Sql Worksheet open, you can switch focus from the Report Tab to the Worksheet, and the connect/disconnect will work once again. Focus on the Report Tab and it breaks.

For example, this works:

can_disconnect

But this doesn't:

cannot_disconnect

This is easily repeatable and is probably a bug. If it's not a bug, I don't understand the reasoning behind it. I'm fairly certain I've encountered this before but didn't make the 'connection' to the Reports Tab. I only discovered it because I'm developing an extension and my custom context menus failed to work. I had to debug into the code to find out what was going on. In the handleEvent(IdeAction, Context) method of an oracle.ide.controller.Controller, context.getElement() returns null when on the Reports tab. When this occurs, I display this message:

connection_context

The message may need work, but at least it's better than nothing. (Now there's an interesting idea. A SqlDeveloper extension that fixes SqlDeveloper bugs.)

I completely agree with the above comment, the internet is with a doubt growing into the most important medium of communication across the globe and its due to sites like this that ideas are spreading so quickly.
